Its Time To Change Gear…Again!

The introduction of Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) in April 2018 meant that it became an offence for landlords to grant, extend or renew a lease of any commercial property with an EPC rating of below E.

From April 2023 MEES will introduce further changes meaning that landlords will also not be allowed to continue to let a commercial property with an EPC rating of below E. There are a number of exceptions where properties may fall outside of the changes, however, for the majority of commercial lets, the new changes will apply.

“It’s really important that landlords do not wait until the last minute to make the required changes to their properties. Both landlords and tenants should be encouraged to work in partnership to improve the energy performance of commercial properties.” MTTG MD
